An Innovative
New Approach
to Brain Nutrition

Introducing Neuridan – an innovative new way to feed the brain when normal glucose-based nutrition is not working well enough. Neuridan is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Brain Energy and Metabolism

Mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s Disease continue to grow at an alarming rate. They are among the most severe health-threatening conditions.

Certain people with mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s Disease have limited uptake and utilization of the critically needed nutrient and brain energy source, glucose.

Intended for use when glucose-based nutrition is insufficient, Neuridan provides an alternative ketone-based fuel source for the brain.

Medical Food Designed to Help Maintain Brain Function

Neuridan was developed to meet a specific nutritional need in people with impaired glucose metabolism in the brain, including patients with mild cognitive impairment and mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s Disease.

Not a supplement or drug, Neuridan is designated as a medical food or food for special dietary use.

It is designed to supply an alternative way to feed the brain when use of normal glucose-based nutrition is impaired. Neuridan is meant to be administered under medical supervision alongside standard medications used to treat neurodegenerative conditions and those impacting glucose metabolism in the brain.

Who is it for?

Neuridan is recommended for people with mild cognitive impairment and mild- to moderate-stage Alzheimer’s Disease. Both conditions impact normal mental function. However, Alzheimer’s mental decline can affect daily living and cause personality changes, while mild cognitive impairment does not typically interfere with daily living.

Administered as a medical food for dietary management in conjunction with generally acceptable “standard of care” treatments, Neuridan can have a positive impact on brain function and cognition of most patients. The first generation of Neuridan is expected to be commercially available in the United States in late 2024 for use under medical supervision.

How does it work?

Taken orally under medical supervision as part of mild cognitive impairment or an Alzheimer’s Disease management plan, Neuridan enables people to reach and maintain a high level of ketones (physiological hyperketonemia) without potentially harmful or unwanted side effects associated with products based on medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) and salts.

Historically, high levels of ketones have been shown to support brain energy, which can sustain brain cells in people with mild cognitive impairment and mild- to moderate-stages of Alzheimer’s Disease.

What makes Neuridan unique?

Boosting ketones is known to help provide energy to the brain when normal absorption of glucose is impaired due to certain neurodegenerative conditions, strokes or brain injuries. Neuridan delivers ketones that the brain can use for energy when normal glucose-based energy production is insufficient or compromised, such as in Alzheimer’s Disease. NEV’s patented Neuridan will be the first commercially available product to supply a safe, highly efficient, and meaningful source of ketones that may be readily utilized by the brain.

Scientific Details

Neuridan is a ketogenic glyceryl 3-hydroxybutyrate ester (in other words, ketone bodies with a glycerin backbone). When ingested, Neuridan delivers ketone bodies for brain nutrition without involving the liver.

What is Medical Food?

A medical food provides nutritional support tailored to the specific needs of people with certain diseases or conditions. Unlike typical dietary supplements, a medical food must address a “distinct nutritional need.”

What are Foods for Special Dietary Use?

Foods for Special Dietary Use meet a special dietary need that exists due to physical, physiological, pathological, or other health conditions. They supply vitamins, minerals, or other ingredients to supplement patients’ diets by increasing the total dietary intake and fulfilling specific dietary requirements.

What are Ketones?

Ketones, also called ketone bodies, are produced from fat by the liver. The body makes ketones naturally as an additional source of energy. Normally, low levels of ketones are found in everyone.

About Us

Based in the United States, NeuroEnergy Ventures (NEV) was founded in 2016 as a scientific philanthropy.

From the beginning, NEV’s focus has been on research and development of ketone-based medical foods, foods for special dietary use and related compounds for people with reduced neuronal metabolism building on decades-long research.
